STEEL STRUCTURE SYSTEM,
IT IS AN ADVANCED SYSTEM
"The construction of steel structures is thought to be more expensive than traditional structures. However, when we say reinforced concrete structure, steel structure, wooden structure, stone structure, we are actually talking about the carrier system of buildings. Today, the structural systems of buildings in residential groups account for approximately 25 percent of the total cost."

We had an in-depth interview on Steel Building Systems with Melih Şimşek, the founder of Consera, Akşan and Akkon Çelik, who established Akkon Çelik A.Ş., Turkey's first light steel building system production facility in Çerkezköy in 2001, and who has made significant contributions to the promotion of light steel systems in Turkey and neighboring countries by focusing on increasing demand and developing technology in Turkey and abroad.
Mr. Melih, first of all, we would like to get brief information about your field of activity.
For many years, we have been practicing our profession with more industrial methodologies, far from traditional approaches. We are the company that launched the first steel houses in Turkey, created their engineering infrastructure and also developed real estate projects with the first steel houses.
35th Street, which we realized in Izmir, is a project we are very proud of. In fact, we wanted to spread this project across Turkey, but since our country's agenda was complicated at that time, we had to wait in real estate.
The big breakthroughs we had hoped for could not be realized. For this reason, we took a break from real estate development for a while. Our main goal in this project was to deliver the products we produce to the user, to learn from these experiences and to improve our production methods and logistics by using what we have learned. One of the most important problems facing our country is the earthquake. We are trying to develop a construction method that solves this problem and can be applied without harming environmental sustainability. As a company, we have been a pioneer in this field for 23 years. We are a small example, but we have come a long way over the years by dealing with this issue no matter what. We have not been using traditional construction methods for the last 23 years. The structures we have completed exceed 2.5 million square meters. Of this, 70 percent was built abroad, while 30 percent is made up of domestic projects.
Steel structures are not widespread enough in Turkey, what are the reasons for this?
Actually, there are very clear reasons. One of them is cultural reasons.
